Well, we're moving.
I hate moving.
There's the cleaning, the taking down, the boxing up, the heavy toting, the trip down the mountain, the trip up the mountain....rinse, repeat. Over and over and over.....
We can't afford a moving company, but we would not need one if we could. We are moving from the mountain to the valley.
I'll miss living on the mountain, with its stunning beauty, its constantly changing moods, and its solitude. But, as with anything in life, there are pros and cons, pluses and minuses, to everything.
While the mountain is quiet and beautiful, the valley has more lively movement to it. As the mountain is changeable in the moods of nature, the valley is changeable in the human interaction.
We have lived here on this mountain for some time at little expense, staying in a friend's cabin. But in the valley we will have our own home. While I sincerely appreciate the friend's gift of the cabin for a season, there is a blessing in finally having our own place. No matter how wonderful your landlord is, you always have a feeling someone is looking over your shoulder, maybe taking exception to something you're doing. But a man is the king of his castle, and if you own your home, you feel that liberty to do as you please with it.
I will be keeping most of the chicken flock. The lot we're moving to is nearly an acre, so I don't think the chickens will be a problem. Half the flock was our friend's, anyway, so he'll be keeping some of the layers and "Mr. Mean," the rooster. (I need to remember to tell him about that.....)
I may even take a stab at keeping a couple of milk goats again. We'll see.
Well, anyway, I am changing the little slug at the top of the page, because I won't be on a mountain anymore, although I have a splendid view of the mountains from my new home! My blog may not get updated next week, as we are occupied with settling in.
I honestly look forward to this next season in our pilgrimage. There will be neighbors to meet, critters to become acquainted with, and new things to do.
Life's an adventure!
Signing off from my mountain in Tennessee, this is Granny Fisher. Moving.
